Picking the Right Screen Size for Your Dash

Bigger is not always better. Here is how to think about aspect ratio, HVAC clearance and sight lines before you commit to a 12.3-inch or Tesla-style vertical screen.

Aspect ratio matters more than diagonal inches

A 10.25-inch 16:9 screen and a 10-inch 4:3 vertical screen are the same "size" by one measure and completely different by every other. Wireless CarPlay is designed for 800×480 up to 1920×720 landscape layouts; on a vertical Tesla-style screen the CarPlay window sits in the top two-thirds and the bottom third becomes factory HVAC or media controls. If you use CarPlay 90% of the time, a wide landscape screen gives you more usable interface. If you value factory climate controls staying visible at all times, the vertical layout wins.

Physical fit and sight lines

Measure the dash opening in millimetres and check clearance to the HVAC vents and gear selector before ordering. A 12.3-inch screen in a mid-size sedan can block airflow from center vents or partially occlude the hazard button — issues that are impossible to unsee once installed. For most vehicles between 2013 and 2022, a 10.1 to 10.25-inch fascia is the sweet spot: large enough to feel modern, small enough to preserve every original control.
